You can edit any check in Emma — whether you created it yourself or added it from Emma's library — to update its question, scope, risk descriptions, or golden standard. When you save, Emma re-analyzes all relevant documents using the updated definition.
Step 1 — Open the edit form
There are two ways to reach the edit form: Option A — from the Matrix:
Go to Matrix in the main sidebar.
Select a document type in the left sidebar and click the Risks tab.

The Info tab is the default tab when you open the document viewer. It shows everything Emma knows about the file beyond risks and key terms — metadata, AI-generated summary, categorization, signature status, bundle membership, and duplicate warnings.

Archive file upload and extraction
Emma supports uploading archive files to the Documents page. The following archive formats can be uploaded:

The Authorized domain setting lets you allow anyone whose email address belongs to a specific domain to join your Emma organization automatically — without needing an individual invitation. To access this setting, go to Settings > Organization settings > Authorized domain.
How it works
Once you authorize a domain (for example lawfirm.com), anyone who signs up or logs in to Emma with an email address ending in that domain is automatically added to your organization as a User. ThFew readersAssignments
The Assignments page lets you assign specific team members to review particular areas and document types within a data room. This helps coordinate who is responsible for what across a large deal. To get there, go to Settings > M&A data rooms, select a data room, and open the Assignments tab.
How assignments work
A data room is organized into areas (broad topic groups like Corporate, HR, or Real Estate) and each area contains document types. You can assign one or more reviFew readersSupported file types
Emma ingests all files that are manually uploaded or synced using an integration with a Virtual Data Room provider or with file sharing software.

Key terms are AI-extracted values from your documents. Each document type has its own set of key terms, and Emma extracts a value for each key term from every document assigned to that type. The extracted values are shown in the Key terms tab of the Matrix.

The PDF viewer is the most capable preview mode in Emma. It renders documents as a continuous vertical scroll (all pages in one stream), overlays AI and manual risk annotations, and provides tools for search, navigation, and on-page collaboration.

The Glossary lets you define preferred translations, definitions, and interpretations for key terms used in your documents. Emma includes these definitions in its AI prompts when extracting key terms, generating red flag summaries, and assigning risk levels. To access the glossary, go to Settings > Organization settings > Glossary.

The Organization members page lets you manage who has access to your Emma organization, assign their roles, view and manage outstanding invitations, and oversee membership changes. To access it, go to Settings > Organization settings > Organization members.

Every member of your organization has one of three roles:
Admin: Full access to the organization and all data rooms. Admins can invite new members, change roles, and remove people from the organization.Few readersRisks
The Risks tab of the Matrix displays one column per check you have added. For each document, Emma shows the risk level assigned by that specific check in its column. The Matrix helps you focus on the risks that matter most by hiding columns with no relevant findings by default, ranking visible columns so the highest-severity issues appear on the left, and sorting file rows so the riskiest documents are at the top. Matrix chat is an AI assistant panel built directly into the Matrix. It lets you ask questions about the documents in the currently selected document type — without leaving the table view. Answers stream inline and are scoped to the files visible in that document type by default.

The Dropbox integration lets you connect folders and files from your Dropbox account directly to an Emma data room. Once connected, Emma syncs the documents you select and analyzes them automatically — no manual downloading or uploading required.
The integration is available to all Emma users at no additional cost.

In Emma, open the data room (or create a new one) and click Connect next to Dropbox.

The document viewer is Emma's central workspace for reviewing a single file. It combines a full-screen preview of the document on the left with a Document Review sidebar on the right, where you inspect metadata, risks, key terms, and team comments without leaving the file.

The Comments tab centralises all team discussion pinned to specific locations in a document. Unlike risks and key terms, comments are purely collaborative — they do not flow into the Matrix or Red Flag Report unless you act on them separately.

The HighQ connector lets you sync documents from a Thomson Reuters HighQ site directly into an Emma data room. The integration uses OAuth, so once connected Emma can list the sites and folders you have access to and pull in the documents you select — no manual download or upload required.

Besides the many integrations with Virtual Data Rooms and document sharing tools like Box, Dropbox, and OneDrive, the Emma workspace also supports manually uploading documents.

It's now easier to discover and start a manual upload, with several entry points throughout the workspace:

Creating a New Data Room or Project
When you log in to Emma, you'll land on your organisation's home page. At the top, you'll find a set of options asking where you would like to start.
To create a new workspace:
Click "New M&A Data Room" to start an end-to-end legal due diligence workspace. This option is designed for the full transactional workflow, including document upload, analysis, and report generation.

Emma automatically categorizes documents into the document types of your Information Request List (IRL). When the AI is confident, categorization happens without any manual input. When it isn't sure, those documents are marked as unclassified and shown at the top of the IRL sidebar on the Documents page.

Projects lets you analyse and compare contracts outside the context of an M&A data room. Where a data room is built around a specific deal, a Project is a flexible workspace for any contract review task — regardless of whether a transaction is involved.

The iDeals VDR integration is now fully available to all Emma Platform users. You no longer need to request access or wait for approval to connect or reconnect your iDeals data room. Simply follow the prompts in Emma to establish the connection.

Emma integrates with both Microsoft OneDrive and Microsoft SharePoint. Both use the same Microsoft OAuth flow and are available to all Emma users at no additional cost.

How to connect OneDrive or SharePoint
In Emma, open the data room (or create a new one) and click Connect next to OneDrive or SharePoint.

The Files page gives you a complete overview of every file currently in a data room. Deleted files are not shown. To get there, go to Settings > M&A data rooms, select a data room, and open the Files tab.

Browse all files — Scroll through the full list of files in the data room, or filter by folder. Click any file to open its details, including classification, key terms, and check results.

The Information Request List (IRL) is a list of documents required by a law firm to perform the necessary legal due diligence. If documents from this list are missing from the data room, the due diligence cannot be completed in full. Therefore, it is important to have a complete IRL so there are no gaps between what is required and what is available.

A playbook is a reusable configuration that defines the document types, checks, and key terms for a data room or project. Instead of setting these up from scratch in every deal, you build a playbook once and apply it wherever needed. To manage playbooks, go to Settings > Organization settings > Playbooks.

The Information Request List (IRL) view allows you to organise, manage, and review all information requests for a project. This article explains how to navigate the IRL, work with its tabs, and use the updated management menus.
Overview of the IRL view
Navigate to the Documents section of your project and select the IRL tab. The sidebar displays all defined IRL "areas," each grouping relevant document types. You can expand or collapse areas to see the included document types.

The Key terms tab shows AI-extracted values for every key term defined on the document's type — clauses, dates, amounts, yes/no answers, and summaries that Emma pulled from this specific file. It is the document-level counterpart to the Key terms columns in the Matrix.

Checks are questions or clause definitions Emma runs against every relevant document in your data room. The result — a risk level per document — appears as a column in the Risks tab of the Matrix.
Emma provides a library of predefined checks organized by topic. You can also reuse checks from other data rooms in your organization. This article walks you through adding them.

Prerequisites:
You need a Client ID and a Client Secret. These are typically provided by your Intralinks administrator.
You need to have the same e-mail address as a user name within both the Emma platform and Intralinks VDR Pro.
Users need to have bulk download rights within Intralinks VDR Pro. If you do not have these rights, Emma will nFew readersRoles within the Emma Platform
Emma works with two layers of permissions: (1) organization-level roles and (2) deal-level roles.
1. Organization-level roles
These roles govern access across your entire Emma environment:
User: Users can create new data rooms and view the data rooms they have access to within the organization. This is the default role for internal team members who are actively involved in deal work.
